Concise Information with respect to Forestry Training Institution, Kanpur
Forestry Training Institute, Kanpur, was established in 1988 in the erstwhile undivided
Uttar Pradesh in Kidwai Nagar, Kanpur.
Since, imparting training to Forest Rangers/Forest Area Officers, in the undivided
Uttar Pradesh was done by Forestry Training Institute, Haldwani, and training for
Forest keepers was being imparted in many 'Forest Keepers' Training Centres' centers
across Uttar Pradesh, hence the role of Forestry Training Institute, Kanpur was
limited to providing basic and review training to forest experts.
As a result of Division of Uttar Pradesh in the year 2001, Forestry Training Institute,
Haldwani was transferred to Uttrakhand, hence new /important scope of training regarding
management of forests was added in the role of Forestry Training Institute, Kanpur.
It is relevant here to mention that there have been many basic changes in the perception
of management of natural resources in the changing environment. The old system of
policing nature, was being replaced by joint forest management and rural participation
/ cooperative perception.
Development in horticulture technique, Unprecedented development in Information
and technology field, amendments done by Government of U.P to make laws of Indian
forest act more effective, etc have made it very important that the regular training
to different level of officers/ employees of Forest and Wildlife Department, members
of village forest committee, people associated with different aspects of forests/natural
resources, through this institute. Keeping in mind this objective, the U.P. Government
established an institution for training and management of land, water and forest
(C.M.F) in 2001 under the societies registration act.
Similarly, at present, two units functional in the institute (Forestry Training
Institute, kanpur & C.M.F, Kanpur) are involved in the work of imparting training.
