Wildlife Conservation Schemes

Project Tiger (Centrally Sponsored) With the funding from the Government of India and the state government this scheme being implemented for the protection of tiger and its natural habitat. Dudhwa National Park was covered with the Government of India "Project Tiger" plan in 1987. Later on Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary and Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary were jointly brought together under the Government of India's ambitious Plan "Project Tiger" with the name of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve. From the year 2014-15 Pilibhit forest division has also been included in the "Project Tiger" scheme.

Integrated Development of Wildlife Habitats (Centrally Sponsored) This scheme is being implemented for the development and management of all bird sanctuaries and wildlife sanctuaries in the state with the assistance of the Government of India. Regional ecological development task is also carried out under this scheme.

Project Elephant (Centrally Sponsored) The scheme is being implemented for formally advertised as Elephant Reserve by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. Under the scheme, financial assistance is being provided for the protection and conservation of natural habitats of elephants, anti-poaching activities, minimization of human wildlife conflict conditions, wildlife conservation awareness and awareness in local communities, etc. The 3 forest divisions in the state, Shivalik, Bijnor Social Forestry and Najibabad forest division, have been identified for the project where elephants are in abundance.

National Plan for conservation of aquatic ecosystems (Centrally Sponsored) National Plan for conservation of aquatic ecosystems is being implemented under the National Wetland conservation program of government of India.Government of India has decided to merge the national level schemes the National Wetland Conservation Program and the National Lake Conservation Programme and to implement them under a new scheme known as National Plan for conservation of aquatic ecosystems from 2013-14. The new scheme is to be implemented by the Government of India and the state government in 70: 30 ratio. The aim of this scheme is to protect the conserved and non-conserved Wetlands, natural habitat improvement, catchment area treatment, research, and to help in managing partnership with the local communities and water quality monitoring, etc. Under this program, Government of India provides annual financial approval on the basis of 5-year Management Intervention Action Plan for specific Wetlands.

Implementation of the recommendations of the 13th Finance Commission (ACA)

For implementation of the recommendations of the Thirteenth Finance Commission's five-year action plan of Rs. 80.4800 crores (for year 2010-11 to 2014-15) was sent to the government for approval, against which a five-year consolidated action plan of Rs 80.4800 crores has been approved. The scheme is being implemented in the entire state. Under this scheme the work of tree plantation to increase the density of open forests, repairing of fire lines (including Culvert), Demarcation (including boundary pillar construction), maintenance of residential houses, construction of incomplete buildings of Forest and Wildlife Department modernization scheme, strengthening of communication system, promotion works, development of information technology system, brick guard and plantation on approach routes etc. are being carried out.

National Afforestration Programme (through Forest Development Authority)

The scheme is being implemented from 2000-01. To add the public to the work of protection and promotion of forests, in each division of the state, according to guidelines from the Government of India forestry work is being conducted through the public participation through central aid through the Forest Development Authority. The villages which are selected under the scheme, the local residents of those villages are selected to protect, develop and promote the forests. Since the beginning, 72 forest divisions FDA in the state has been funded by the Government of India.

Intensification of Forest Management (Centrally sponsored)

The scheme is being implemented with 75 per cent central to 25 per cent state government share for the purpose of financing the protection of forests. Under the scheme the work related to prevention of forest fire, provision of services of strengthened forest security and representation of forest management, field survey and demarcation, etc. are being carried out.
