Spread over just about 5.25 sq kms of area, the Sanctuary today remains one of the best places in the state to view the majestic sarus cranes. Saman Sanctuary is also a haven for several species of migratory birds like the common teal, northern pintail, great white pelican and species of storks. The resident population of storks in the Sanctuary includes painted stork, black-necked stork, open-billed stork and woolly-necked stork.
